Eastern Associates took immediate action after witnessing the news reports regarding Haiti’s earthquake in January. The Eastern Cares Emergency Fund made a donation to Water Missions International to help them in their efforts to provide clean drinking water to Haiti. This donation would not only resolve an immediate need but also provide a sustainable resource to the people in these Haitian communities. Eastern partnered with Georg Fischer to provide the material for newly designed tap stands.

While in Haiti, Water Missions International and Samaritan’s Purse partnered to install a Living Water Treatment System (LWTS) in the town of Leogane (DaBourne). A chlorinator was also installed on a spring outlet at the Mission Reach Out Haiti compound in Leogane. Mission Reach Out Haiti is a school and orphanage that ministers to approximately 1400 children. Safe water is now available to the Mission compound and residents of the surrounding community. The newly designed Georg Fischer tap stand was used at this location Utilizing these tap stands greatly increases the efficiency of water distribution from the system to the people of the community as up to six people are able to access safe water simultaneously. To date a total of twenty-eight LWTS have been installed in Haiti. Six chlorinators have also been installed; however, this number will increase significantly as they are added to existing and newly drilled wells.
