May 11, 2009The First Annual Rice Vinskus Scholarship Golf Tournament was held on May 1, 2009at Southern Oaks golf course in Easley, SC. Despite the early morning rain clouds and wind, the Lord blessed us with beautiful weather for the tournament. We had an AMAZING turn out and had so much fun raising money for the scholarship fund!
My family established the Rice Vinskus Scholarship in December of 2008, and it is available to college students who have a parent or stepparent who has been diagnosed with, is in remission from, or has passed away from breast cancer. The scholarship was namedfor our cousin, Kathy Rice, who recently passed away from the disease, and my grandmother, Doris Vinskus, who is currently in her second remission. In establishing this scholarship fund, our hope is to honor them and carry on the tradition they began of helping people with this terrible disease.
Eastern Cares, along with the company, helped support our tournament by sponsoring both a hole and a team. We also had two other teams with Eastern associates come out to support us! With their help, along with so many others, we were able to raise over $10,000! We are so excited that our first major fundraiser was a success and are looking forward to next year!
