On Saturday July 11th, Rich Carrington, Dustin Sawyer, and I took part in a Charity Golf Tournament for Josh Worley.  Josh is the UPS Driver for Branch 1 – Greenville,SC.  Josh was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.  Josh’s coworker Jonathan O’Sullivan and his wife Heather, with the help of UPS, sprang into action.  Within two weeks, the team organized a golf tournament that raised $19,100 through registration, tee shirts, wristbands, 50/50, and a silent auction. In addition to money raised, Eastern made a generous donation through the Eastern Cares Program for the Worley Family.

The day’s events took place at Smithfield Country Club in Easley, SC where hundreds came out to support the Worley Family.  Josh and his wife Nicole were present to take in all the love and support from family, friends, coworkers, and customers on his route.  Just before tee off, Josh said a few words that really put everything into perspective.  The day wasn’t about how well you would play or where you would place as a team, but it was about a young family man who needed help but was too proud to ask for it.  Josh is a very strong, very positive person who has not lost his sense of humor through this difficult time.  He even joked about not having to deliver packages in the heat of the summer.  Josh continues his fight and has a long road ahead of him.  If you would like to send him words of encouragement, you can visit http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joshworley and sign his guestbook.

It was truly an honor to be a part of what turned out to be a great day, for a great guy, and to represent a great company.
