True Rewards

January 20, 2009

In November, I went with a missions group called Sports Evangelism and Missions (SEAM) to the Dominican Republic. We met up with Score International and between the two organizations, there were 260 people involved in the mission trip. Each day, we split into five groups and went to various cities to lead baseball clinics teaching infield, outfield, pitching, catching and hitting. We saw thousands of boys each day at these clinics. What a passion these kids have for baseball!

Building a Church Against Opposition

December 31, 2008

Imagine not only having to travel a great distance just to go to church, but to do so amidst an often hostile environment. That was the case for more than 100 Christian families of Subramanya Nagar in Puttur village, Udupi Taluk in South India until Rajesh Salins of Bell-O-Seal Valve, one of Eastern’s business contacts, was inspired by God to construct a church in order to benefit all Christians in the area. Despite his commitment of resources and land, Salins encountered staunch opposition from local non-Christians. Even after laying a foundation on property he gave for the church building, work continued to be hindered. So, Salins donated the property to CSI Church Association. However, the faithfulness of Salins, the CSI Church Association, and other believers to God’s call to build a church proved stronger than the opposition as they finally succeeded in convincing the locals to let building continue. As a result of much prayer and faithfulness in reaching out to Christians all over the world, the church, named CSI St. Paul’s Church, is near completion with work on a parsonage set to start soon.

Giving is Receiving

December 26, 2008

Christmas is a time filled with joy, carols, and presents.  However, for those of us who are less fortunate, Christmas can be a dark time filled with reminders of things we don’t have.  Eastern takes this opportunity to make a difference and give back to the local communities.

Daniel Arnold Fund

December 1, 2008

Coronary Heart Disease is the number three killer in the United States. Heart attacks are tragic but unfortunately are not rare in today’s society. However, when such tragedy struck Daniel Arnold a twelve-year-old boy in Greenville, the shock rang throughout the community. This time last year Arnold , seemingly a typical child, suffered a massive heart attack. Luckily he was able to make a remarkable recovery which allowed him to return to school earlier than doctors had anticipated.

About Eastern Cares

About

Eastern Industrial Supplies, Inc. established the Eastern Cares program in 2002 dedicated to four main “Cs” of caring focusing on Company, Community, Country, and Culture.

Caring for our Company

In caring for our Company, Eastern focuses on impacting the lives of our associates.

Eastern partners with Marketplace Chaplains USA, an outreach ministry that provides teams of professionally-trained, experienced Chaplains who extend compassionate care to our most valuable asset — our Associates and their families.

Associate Emergency Fund (which is fully funded by Eastern Associates) provides financial support in times of crisis. Associates reach out to one another, promoting an environment of care and understanding.

Educational Assistance Fund assists Associates in furthering their education and training to best meet their career objectives

Scholarship Fund awards undergraduate scholarships to children or grandchildren of full-time Associates.

Adoption Assistance offers financial support to Associates who are building families.

In efforts to help support the mental and spiritual well-being of our associates, Eastern also offers Weekend-to-Remember Marriage Enrichment, Brown-Bag Lunch Bible/Book Studies, and Christmas Candlelight Services.

Defibrillator and CPR Training is mandated at each branch in order to provide a safe working environment for our associates and customers.

Eastern also partners with Teleios Services in giving associates access to a financial management specialist who can assist them with planning for the future, budgeting, tax issues and various other financial challenges.

Caring for our Communitites

Eastern demonstrates care and commitment to our local communities by volunteering our time and resources to local outreach programs. Locally, each branch donates to community blood drives, rescue missions, and youth and children’s homes such as the Helping Hands Ministry in Atlanta, Georgia. Furthermore, Eastern donates to organizations such as Miracle Hill Ministries, Campus Crusade for Christ and Fellowship for Christian Athletes. Also, the Cares Fund provides support to meet specific financial needs within our communities.

Caring for our Country

In caring for our Country, Eastern’s heart for caring extends beyond our physical reach taking part in national outreach efforts such as March of Dimes WalkAmerica, National Breast Cancer Awareness, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Awareness, Care Packages for U.S. Troops in Iraq, and Hurricane Katrina Relief.

Caring for other Cultures

Eastern’s care for other cultures is exemplified through our Eastern Cares Mission Work Program, supporting Associates with paid leave to take part in mission-oriented projects, whether at home or in distant corners of the world. Eastern Associates have traveled to Romania, Peru, Kenya, and Tanzania just to name a few in service to others. In addition, Eastern’s care is demonstrated through company donations to aid in the relief efforts after devastating natural disasters such as the Thailand Tsunami.
