Building a Church Against Opposition

December 31, 2008

Imagine not only having to travel a great distance just to go to church, but to do so amidst an often hostile environment. That was the case for more than 100 Christian families of Subramanya Nagar in Puttur village, Udupi Taluk in South India until Rajesh Salins of Bell-O-Seal Valve, one of Eastern’s business contacts, was inspired by God to construct a church in order to benefit all Christians in the area. Despite his commitment of resources and land, Salins encountered staunch opposition from local non-Christians. Even after laying a foundation on property he gave for the church building, work continued to be hindered. So, Salins donated the property to CSI Church Association. However, the faithfulness of Salins, the CSI Church Association, and other believers to God’s call to build a church proved stronger than the opposition as they finally succeeded in convincing the locals to let building continue. As a result of much prayer and faithfulness in reaching out to Christians all over the world, the church, named CSI St. Paul’s Church, is near completion with work on a parsonage set to start soon.
